Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino has given his opinion on what he thinks is Christopher Nkunku’s best position.
He claimed during his pre-match press conference that he believes he features better in a central role than playing on the wing for the Blues.
Nkunku has been a substitute for the last two games, with him coming on in both games as his side are chasing the game.
His first Premier League appearance on Christmas Eve was marked with his first goal for the club, although it wasn’t enough to see the Blues avoid defeat.
Pochettino has now given his take on where he sees the Frenchman featuring on the pitch when he is fully fit.
He said: “At the moment he is coming back from injury his best position is more like a 10 or a 9, more than the left or right side like a winger. To cope with the demands of the Premier League and what the team needs, it’s better in these positions.
Nkunku’s best position
“He is now starting to understand the Premier League, that teams are very aggressive and the football is very different to other countries.
“It’s good for him, more minutes. He will adapt little by little, but scoring will help him adapt quicker.”
There may be an argument for the manager to start him in the natural striker role that no one else at Stamford Bridge has particularly nailed down up to now.
While Nicolas Jackson has goals to his name, his overall performance has left a lot to be desired, with reports of the Blues entering the market for a number nine not going away.
Supporters will be eager to see just how well he links up with Cole Palmer on the pitch, however will not see that tomorrow due to the Englishman’s suspension.
