One of the best players for Chelsea in recent times has been Enzo Fernandez.

We know that Chelsea have struggled badly for over a year now, and while Enzo Fernandez has not always been at his best since his move to the Blues, the Argentina international midfielder has been one who can always be relied upon.

Fernandez has established himself as a key figure in the Chelsea midfield and is one of the first names on the teamsheet when he is fit and available.

The 22-year-old is able to play in a holding role or further ahead in midfield where he can create chances for his teammates.

While we have not seen the best of Fernandez yet, there have been very encouraging signs about the £315,000-a-week (Spotrac).

Mauricio Pochettino on Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez

Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino has noted that the Argentine is still struggling with his English.

Pochettino made the comments about Fernandez facing a language barrier while explaining why he would prefer England international midfielder Conor Gallagher to be the captain when he is on the pitch.

The Daily Mail quotes Pochettino as saying about Fernandez: “Thiago is an experienced player that doesn’t need the armband and then I think it’s important to build something for the future. Not only the present but the future. He is there and the captain is not only to put the armband on your arm.

“To clarify, I think maybe it was Thiago give it to Enzo but Enzo is still struggling with his English.

“If we need to communicate with the referee and everything I think Conor can perfectly do the job and for me I prefer Conor than Enzo because I think Conor can speak normally, English.”

Enzo Fernandez will improve

In our view, Enzo Fernandez will improve his English and will become a better player for Chelsea.

We can understand why Chelsea head coach Mauricio Pochettino would want Conor Gallagher to be the captain.

After all, Gallagher would be better speaking to the referee than Fernandez.

The big question is whether Gallagher would be able to play week in and week out for Chelsea when everyone is fit and available.

Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia joined Chelsea in the summer transfer window, so Gallagher is facing competition for a place in the starting lineup.
