Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Mauricio Pochettino got rid of Joao Felix due to a preference to play Christopher Nkunku at Chelsea.

He told his own ‘Here we Go’ podcast that the club and manager came to an agreement over the decision made by the new manager.

It did not take Pochettino long to have a big decision to make regarding the future of Chelsea, and one of their biggest names.

Felix had claimed before that he personally wanted to remain at Stamford Bridge after his loan spell at the club came to an end when the season ended.

However, it emerged that the new manager has decided that the 23-year-old is not going to be part of his plans for the next campaign, as the club look to turn around their fortunes.

It has now emerged from Romano that the reason Pochettino came to this decision is because he had faith that Nkunku would perform better in the role behind the striker.

He said: “Chelsea and Mauricio Pochettino have decided to trust Christopher Nkunku over Felix playing behind the new striker they will sign.”

Perhaps still slightly going under the radar, the Frenchman is set to join the club this summer ahead of a future campaign.

The Blues got a deal done last year for him to make the move to Stamford Bridge in the summer after they missed out on bringing him in before the campaign started.

Despite an injury-hit campaign, he still finished the Bundesliga season as the top scorer, proving he has the capabilities to help fix the glaring issue in front of goal in West London.

With him personally already claiming his best position is behind the striker, he will be hoping the Blues add a natural number nine to their ranks this summer too.
