Morecambe striker Carlos Mendes-Gomes has said that he is looking forward to facing Chelsea on Sunday as he opens up his admiration of Blues star N’Golo Kante.
The League Two side have just a few days to prepare for the FA Cup third-round match against Chelsea after previously closing their training ground for 10 days following a Covid-19 outbreak.
Morecambe’s ace Mendes-Gomes, who bagged five goals and an assist in five games in December, said he is still looking forward to their trip to Stamford Bridge, however.
“[Chelsea] are a top club, not only in England but around the world,” he told Morecambe’s official website.
“They’ve got some great players, and yeah, looking forward to it.”
Interestingly, when asked to name his favourite Chelsea player, the Morecambe striker picked N’Golo Kante who is known for his defensive abilities.
“He’s someone I really rate, not just because of the hard work he puts in but how he is as a person as well,” he added.
“Really humble, and he’s a World Cup winner. I really like him.”
It remains to be seen whether Mendes-Gomes would face Kante on the pitch at the weekend since Frank Lampard reportedly plans to heavily rotate his team for the cup tie (Goal).
Kante is the only Chelsea player who started in all 17 Premier League games they have played so far this season, and it makes sense if Lampard decides to rest the France international.
Billy Gilmour and Jorginho are two obvious replacement options for the holding midfield role.
