Gabby Agbonlahor has revealed that he thinks Romelu Lukaku’s career at Chelsea is definitely over.

The 36-year-old was discussing the Belgium international alongside Natalie Sawyer on talkSPORT when he made the comment, citing something the striker did in December 2021 as the final “nail in the coffin”.

So, what did Gabby Agbonlahor say about Romelu Lukaku? Let’s take a look…

What’s the story?

Well, Agbonlahor defended the 30-year-old for his struggles at Stamford Bridge following a £97.5m move from Inter Milan in August 2021.

However, the talkSPORT pundit added that Lukaku’s revealing interview in December 2021 – where he expressed his love for Inter Milan and said he was not happy under Thomas Tuchel – has sealed his fate.

Agbonlahor said: “It didn’t work for him at Chelsea. 15 goals in 44 games (last season). That’s not bad, but the level he plays at, he knows he should be scoring more. He wasn’t getting the service, he was frustrated. I remember him always throwing his arms up in the air and having a go at the players.

“They didn’t play to his strengths. I think they should (try to reintegrate him). But his interview that he done, I think that’s the nail in the coffin. I don’t think Chelsea will have him back.”

By the sounds of it, Lukaku has no plans to come back to west London anyway.

Lukaku may have already played his final game for Chelsea

According to Fabrizio Romano, Lukaku wants to stay at Inter Milan, and the Italian giants believe they can strike a deal with the Blues for the £350,000-a-week man.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, the reliable Italian journalist said: “From what I understand, Lukaku’s priority is to stay at Inter. Inter are optimistic about keeping Lukaku, but they know they have to find the right formula when speaking with Chelsea.”

That is despite the fact Mauricio Pochettino was said to be keen on building his attack at Chelsea around the Belgian – according to Gazzetta dello Sport.

Lukaku’s return to Chelsea has been nothing short of a disastrous move for the Blues – now, it is time for Todd Boehly to cut his losses and move on.
