Former Premier League star Nani has delivered his verdict on Sporting Lisbon youngster and Chelsea signing Geovany Quenda.
Sporting confirmed in March that Chelsea have agreed a transfer move to sign Geovany Quenda, with the 17-year-old attacker moving to Stamford Bridge in the summer of 2026. In the meantime, the teenage winger will continue his development in Lisbon
Despite his youth, he’s already an important first-team player for the Portuguese giants.

Quenda has been compared to Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal because of the impact he’s already making in senior football.
It’s going to be a while still before Chelsea supporters see the rapid forward lining up for them, but it should be a fun ride watching his growth at Sporting.

Nani excited by Chelsea signing Geovany Quenda, shares where he can improve
Retired Portuguese winger Nani, who won four Premier League titles at Manchester United, is a gigantic fan of Quenda.
He feels that the young star can improve areas of his game such as shooting and consistency, but he’s already a huge admirer of the Sporting academy graduate.
Nani said on Rio Ferdinand’s YouTube channel: “You have a kid now in Sporting Lisbon, Quenda. He’s 17 years old. He’s unbelievable. He has energy, he has speed, he can improve his [body], but he is a very intelligent player. Very mature…
“He needs to improve the finishing and be more consistent, because he shoots very good as well… But he’s unbelievable. He’s skinny, fantastic player. The attitude is there and he takes players on.”
Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca spoke with Quenda during the recent transfer negotiations, explaining that the youngster’s the perfect profile for the club’s vision.
The left-footed wide man does tick plenty of boxes when comparing him to the club’s recent signings.
It’s been claimed that Quenda is likely to play on the left wing when he does arrive at Chelsea in 2026. At Sporting, we’ve seen him operate successful from both flanks.

Geovany Quenda just behind Cole Palmer in key statistic
There is one eye-opening statistic from Quenda this season that demonstrates his attacking threat. The fact he’s making such an impact at the age of 17 must be emphasised, too.
In the Liga Portugal this season, Quenda is averaging 2.24 chances created per 90 (FOTMOB).
In comparison, Chelsea playmaker Cole Palmer is averaging 2.61 chances created per 90 in the Premier League this campaign (FOTMOB).
If the Blues can find a clinical striker to lead the line, they have so much creativity in behind to build a high-scoring team. When Quenda does arrive in just over a year, we expect him to be even better as well!
