Neil Warnock suggested that Mauricio Pochettino would still have found the Chelsea job more appealing than Tottenham Hotspur even if the latter made a late move for him.
Pochettino is now reportedly very close to becoming the next Chelsea manager after entering the final phase of the negotiations in the last couple of days.
Chelsea, however, are not the only Premier League club looking for a new manager.
It is, therefore, a surprise that the Argentine’s former club, Tottenham, had not made a move for him after Antonio Conte’s departure.
Huddersfield boss Warnock, however, argued that even if Spurs had offered him the job, Pochettino would have still preferred Chelsea.
“I remember when Conte left and I said, ‘You mark my words… you have a listen to what he says…'” Warnock told talkSPORT when speaking about Spurs’ situation.
“That dressing room has got to be decimated, butchered.
“I won’t envy anybody coming in there now.
“If Pochettino goes to Chelsea, he won’t, too, I think, because all they need is a centre-forward, isn’t it?”
In fairness, despite Spurs’ embarrassing defeat to Newcastle and their managerial situation, they still sit fifth in the league.
Chelsea, on the other hand, sit 11th, so it is too optimistic to expect one centre-forward could solve all their problems.
That said, the west London club arguably offers a better long-term project from managers’ perspective.
In addition to having plenty of highly-talented talents at their disposal, the Chelsea owners have also proved that they are prepared to back their managers financially.
