Newcastle were interested in signing ‘clinical’ Chelsea player this summer, Pochettino helped stop it

Newcastle United were one club who were interested in Chelsea striker Armando Broja during the summer.

However, according to The Athletic, interest from the Magpies, AC Milan and AS Roma did not go anywhere because of Mauricio Pochettino.

The Argentine appears to be a big fan of Armando Broja, who is already starting to pay back the faith his manager has shown in him.

The 22-year-old made his first start for the club this season in their 2-0 win against Fulham on Monday and managed to score.

It was his third appearance since the anterior cruciate ligament injury he picked up last term, which kept him out of action for months.

Mauricio Pochettino was not keen to let Armando Broja go

Nicolas Jackson is the only other striker in Chelsea’s squad, so it is understandable that Pochettino wanted to keep hold of Broja.

As well as that, the Albania international does look capable of scoring some goals for the Blues, with Alan Shearer describing him as “clinical” back in the 2021/22 season.

However, with Broja still being quite young and having just recovered from a serious injury, we are not expecting him to fire Chelsea back into the Champions League.

But hopefully he can. And if the forward continues to get opportunities from now until the end of the campaign, who knows what he is capable of accomplishing?

But Chelsea fans will feel more confident about their chances of finishing in the top four if the club go out and buy a proven goalscorer in January.
