Frank Leboeuf is eager to get to the bottom of Kai Havertz’s mindset following his weak display against Arsenal.
Speaking on ESPN, Leboeuf honed in on the German international’s underwhelming performance at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.
Havertz, like many of Graham Potter’s side, did not turn up for the derby.
He had one or two brief promising moments in then first half, where he managed to find space behind Arsenal’s defence.
Other than that, the 23-year-old drifted around without really being involved in the fixture.
His standout moments were actually ones for the blooper real.
The attacker attempted a cross from outside the penalty area that managed to land near the opposite corner flag.
“I want to know what Havertz is doing offensively,” ranted Leboeuf.
“He made a cross, he’s an international player, but it ended up at the far, far post.”
Havertz had a nightmare against Arsenal
If the former Chelsea defender cursed the cross, imagine his feelings towards Havertz’s involvement in the Arsenal goal.
Stationed at the front post as the first port of protection, the forward instead limply left his leg out to allow the ball to easily sail past him.
Potter’s men failed to clear the corner and allowed Gabriel the simple task of tapping into the net.
“Defensively for the corner kick when they conceded the goal, he is the guy who has to kick the ball away. He missed the ball by about five inches,” Leboeuf continued whilst discussing Havertz.
“That’s not possible! We all know that he has talent, but what’s wrong with him in his head, like many other players?”
Had Havertz managed to pinch and equaliser, his errors may have been forgotten.
But he didn’t even get close to Aaron Ramsdale, so the blunders will be remembered for some time.
