‘Not so sure’… Pundit still has big doubts about £32m Chelsea player who started vs Man City

The goals are now starting to flow for Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson.

Nicolas Jackson managed to add to his hat-trick against Tottenham Hotspur last Monday with another goal versus Manchester City at the weekend.

However, former Liverpool player Steve Nicol, speaking on ESPN FC, still has some doubts about the 22-year-old.

Jackson’s goal against City made the score 3-3 after Erling Haaland had put the visitors 3-2 up. Rodri then found the back of the net thanks to a deflection off of Thiago Silva to give Pep Guardiola’s side the lead again before Cole Palmer’s penalty levelled things up once more.

Haaland, Silva, Raheem Sterling and Manuel Akanji all netted in the first half to send the two sides in level at the break.

Nicolas Jackson not ready

Despite managing to grab himself a goal against the Premier League and European champions, Nicol does not think Jackson is ready to lead the line for Chelsea.

Discussing the 22-year-old on ESPN FC, Nicol said: “I’m not so sure about Jackson. I think Jackson, we saw today that he’s not ready.”

Can Nicolas Jackson lead Chelsea’s line for the rest of the season?

Honestly, when Jackson arrived at Chelsea from Villarreal over the summer in a £32m deal (The Guardian), he looked like he would struggle to.

He is only 22, has not played too much senior football and had not kicked a football in England.

However, Jackson has done well at times, especially of late, netting against both City and Tottenham.

However, because of his rawness, it is normal to still have doubts about the Senegal international being Chelsea’s first-choice striker for the rest of the season.

The Blues could yet make a move for Brentford’s Ivan Toney in January. He could come in and replace Jackson.

If the former Villarreal man keeps scoring, though, then it is obviously not impossible that Mauricio Pochettino goes with him for the remainder of the campaign and perhaps beyond.
