Danny Mills was left extremely critical of the performance of Fikayo Tomori after watching him play for AC Milan last night.

He told TalkSPORT that the former Chelsea man came out second best in the battle with Inter Milan striker Edin Dzeko during the Champions League semi-final.

Last night saw the 2022 Serie A Champions crash out of the competition, after they were humbly beaten over two legs by their city rivals.

Tomori had already received plenty of criticism for his performance in the first leg of what were two of the most important games of his career.

On paper, it perhaps didn’t look the most difficult matchup for the 25-year-old. He was up against Dzeko for the majority of the tie.

However, Mills has made it clear that the Bosnian international came out on top in the key battle that ultimately decided the tie.

Tomori criticised by Mills

He said: “There have been a lot of questions asked about Fikayo Tomori – ‘why is he not in the England side? Why is he not this, that and the other.’

“In these two games that I have seen, he’s nowhere near it. Dzeko has run him ragged. “Tomori must be twice as quick, but every time in both games so far when Dzeko gets the ball, he just drops his shoulder and sits Tomori down and just waltzes past him.”

There was a lot of talk that Chelsea may have made a mistake by letting the England international go when he was sold a number of years ago.

This ramped up when he was a key member in the Milan side that won Serie A last season.

However, his performances on the big stage in the last week or so have perhaps proven that there was method to the madness at Stamford Bridge.
