Gary Neville was left in disbelief at the performance of Mykhailo Mudryk in the first half for Chelsea.

He claimed during commentary for Sky Sports that he continued to look rigid when receiving the ball in the final third against Manchester United.

The Blues were battered 4-1 at Old Trafford by Erik ten Hag’s side tonight, as their misery for the 2022/23 campaign has almost come to an end.

The first half saw more of the same as far as Chelsea fans have got used to seeing in recent months.

A number of big chances went begging in the opening 45, with Kai Havertz and Conor Gallagher two of the suspects who squandered opportunities.

Another who can be pointed to for blame is Mudryk, who had a tough outing before being replaced in the second half.

Mudryk stuns Neville

A heavy touch as he looked to beat the last line of defence left Neville stunned at what he was continuing to try and do.

He said: “Oh my goodness, how many times have we seen that in the first half? So rigid and stiff on the ball. It’s so heavy that touch its unbelievable. That is just confidence, or a lack of it.

“It’s like he hasn’t got a picture of what he’s going to do with it before he receives it. It’s all a bit fast in his head.”

It is easy to understand why the Ukrainian is down on confidence at the moment. He joined for a big fee in January and will certainly feel like he hasn’t had the opportunities to establish himself as a regular at Stamford Bridge.

He will be hopeful he can learn a lot from Mauricio Pochettino when he starts his job as the next Chelsea manager.
