Journalist Ben Jacobs has claimed that Ian Maatsen could very well be sold by Chelsea this summer.
He told ‘Simon Phillips talks Chelsea’ that the club want him to sign a new contract if he is to stay at Stamford Bridge.
Deadline day was nearly completely revolving around Maatsen, who at one point looked as if he was on the move in the final hours.

Burnley reportedly had a bid accepted for his services, after they enjoyed having him on loan last season.
However, it emerged that he was having serious doubts over leaving Stamford Bridge, with the opportunity of breaking into the first team looking very real.
He has proven to be quite the favourite with Mauricio Pochettino, who has featured him in a variety of positions in the opening fixtures.
Maatsen could be sold in January
Jacobs has claimed that there is still a chance he moves on in January, amidst hesitation over signing a new deal with the club.
He said: “I was surprised Ian Maatsen didn’t go to Burnley on a loan with an obligation to buy, especially after Marc Cucurella’s loan to Manchester United fell through.

“There are a lot of left-backs at the club suddenly, albeit Maatsen has been used in a more advanced position.
“Had Burnley offered £20-25m at the beginning of the window, Maatsen would have likely moved. But he got minutes in pre-season and was reluctant to exit, even knowing Burnley so well from his time with them on loan last season.
“Chelsea now want Maatsen to sign a new contract and if he doesn’t he’s another one who will be put on the market in January.”
