Jason Cundy was seriously impressed by what he saw from Chelsea in Wednesday night’s cup victory against Aston Villa.
In particular, Malo Gusto caught the eye for all the right reasons.
There’s been a lot of negative noise in the media following back-to-back league defeats recently, but the Blues responded on the pitch by putting in their performance of the season so far.
Chelsea ended up comfortable 3-1 winners away to Villa in the FA Cup fourth round replay tie. The reward for Mauricio Pochettino’s side is a home fixture against rivals Leeds United in the next stage of the tournament.
Jason Cundy did single out Chelsea right-back Gusto, 20, for his impressive contribution versus Aston Villa:
“It feels wrong to point out individuals, but I’ve got to say Gusto at right-back has been outstanding. [Alex] Moreno has had no change,” Cundy said via Chelsea’s 5th Stand App (8:45pm, 7 February).

Gusto put in a phenomenal shift up and down the right channel last night.
The 20-year-old defender is enjoying a pretty solid debut campaign during his first introduction to English football.
We’re certainly confident that he’s got a big future ahead of him, especially after his latest performance in the cup.
Speaking via Instagram last night, Wesley Fofana hailed Chelsea teammate Gusto as “too strong” after the Villa win.
Gusto, who’s still in the very infancy of his development, does both sides of the game already to a high standard.
We saw for his assist against Villa that he’s a great crosser of the ball from the right wing. Meanwhile, he brings the kind of aggression with his tackling that our defence needs.
It’s going to become increasingly more difficult for the manager to leave him out of the XI when club captain Reece James is back fit and available.
