Pat Nevin has delivered a positive verdict on one Chelsea player who possesses “staggering pace”.
When you look at the current Blues squad, it’s filled with so much youthfulness, speed and energy.
There’s certainly a lot of fast defenders at Stamford Bridge. Even so, GiveMeSport recently claimed that Chelsea want to sign another defender to cover centre-back and right-back.
On top of that, Enzo Maresca’s group consists of many quick attackers, which has made them so threatening in transition this campaign.

Pat Nevin hails rapid Nicolas Jackson
Pat Nevin believes that Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson has lightning pace and is really improving as a player.
Nevin told BBC Sport: “You look up front at Jackson, the amount of chances he missed, the amount of great positions he got into with his staggering pace, it is staggering his pace, but then blew it time and time again. He’s getting better at that now. He’s running at you in more intelligent areas.
“If you watch Liverpool or Chelsea over the years and you’ve watched some centre-forwards, it’s not always just about getting the ball up to them for a tap-in. Look, you need to drive players away, you need to make good space, and that’s what he’s beginning to learn.”
Nicolas Jackson this season
We’re delighted with the way that Jackson has been playing so far under Maresca. It says a lot that he’s currently keeping impressive teammate Christopher Nkunku out of the best XI.
Jackson, 23, is now into his second year with the Blues and is the club’s first-choice centre-forward.
The Senegal international has played eight games for Chelsea this season, scoring four goals and creating three assists. On top of his attacking output, he really does bring so much to the side with his work rate and ability to stretch opponents with his pace in behind.
There’s definitely been question marks around him for his time in English football, largely around whether or not he can score enough goals. However, there’s no doubt that his £32m transfer fee (The Guardian) is looking more and more like a bargain signing for Chelsea.
With Jackson and Nkunku in attack, the Blues do finally possess some real firepower to lead the line.
