Paul Merson has delivered his score prediction ahead of Saturday’s upcoming fixture between Chelsea and Brighton.

Chelsea host Brighton this weekend in the Premier League, and both teams go into it in good form.

First of all, Enzo Maresca has seen his side pick up 10 points in their last four league matches since they were beaten by Manchester City in their opening fixture. The Blues are certainly building up some momentum, which was helped by dispatching Barrow 5-0 in midweek in the Carabao Cup.

As for Brighton, they’re still unbeaten in the league at this early stage of the season. The Seagulls have nine points on the board already as they adapt to life under their new manager Fabian Hurzeler.

Brighton’s Hurzeler has highlighted the threat of Chelsea’s Nicolas Jackson ahead of Saturday’s fixture, but there’s some real quality on display from both sides.

Paul Merson predicts Chelsea vs Brighton

Paul Merson has gone with a narrow Chelsea victory over Brighton in his weekly predictions for the Premier League.

Merson told Sportskeeda: “I’ve always said this from the word go, Chelsea are a pundit’s nightmare because you simply don’t know what you’re going to get from them. They got the big win at Wolves, drew at home to Crystal Palace, needed a late penalty to get past Bournemouth and then, they go out and rip West Ham apart last weekend!

“Chelsea are so up and down, but I expected these inconsistencies from them if I’m being honest. It’s a new team, new manager, so they will need time. I don’t expect Chelsea to challenge for the title. But I do think they can go from sixth last season to maybe fourth this time around.

“This could be a big test for them against Brighton. If they win this one, this result could serve as the benchmark for the season. I still expect Brighton to make it difficult for Chelsea because they are a team that plays good football.

“Prediction: Chelsea 2-1 Brighton & Hove Albion.”

Chelsea look so threatening in attack

We’re delighted to see that the Blues are looking extremely dangerous in attack under Maresca.

Here are the top scoring teams in the Premier League from the opening five gameweeks:

Chelsea are already spreading the goals around because they’ve got so many offensive options to pick from. For example, Christopher Nkunku can’t force his way into the starting XI for the league despite scoring six times across all competitions this season.

Unlike in recent seasons, we’re going into matches with a confidence that there’s the quality at the top end of the pitch to find a way past any defence.
