Paul Merson has made his score prediction ahead of this weekend’s game between Wolverhampton Wanderers and Chelsea.
Chelsea travel to Wolves on Sunday afternoon in the Premier League, where they’ll be looking to get their first points of the new season.
The Blues suffered a 2-0 defeat to Manchester City last Sunday in their league opener. Interestingly, Chelsea almost set a Premier League record against Man City because their starting line-up was the second youngster ever on an opening weekend.
Enzo Maresca’s side followed that up on Thursday night by winning 2-0 against Servette in the first leg of their Conference League play-off tie.

Paul Merson predicts Wolves vs Chelsea
Paul Merson has said in his Premier League predictions he thinks Chelsea will pick up a draw at Molineux Stadium on Sunday.
Merson told Sportskeeda: “The problem with Chelsea is this – what’s their team for this game? I could literally predict Arsenal’s XI against Tottenham next month, but I can’t do the same for Chelsea…
“Enzo Maresca’s men are in desperate need of a result. I thought they were poor against City and barely left a glove on the champions. I’m going for a draw here against Wolves.
“Prediction: Wolves 1-1 Chelsea.”
Head to head
Chelsea have certainly not enjoyed playing Wolves in recent meetings. Here are the results from the previous six league games between them…
- Chelsea 2-4 Wolves (February 2024)
- Wolves 2-1 Chelsea (December 2023)
- Wolves 1-0 Chelsea (April 2023)
- Chelsea 3-0 Wolves (October 2022)
- Chelsea 2-2 Wolves (May 2022)
- Wolves 0-0 Chelsea (December 2021)
It’s another new individual in Chelsea’s manager’s dugout, this time with Maresca in charge. Let’s hope he can help the Blues end a three-game winning streak for Wolves over them.
