Paul Merson has made his score prediction ahead of Chelsea against Sheffield United this weekend.
Chelsea host Sheffield United on Saturday afternoon at Stamford Bridge, with three vital points in the Premier League up for grabs.
The Blues have lost three of their previous four games in the league, which has seen them drop down to 12th in the table. Hopefully, Mauricio Pochettino’s side can turn things around as they embark on this festive run of fixtures.
Meanwhile, Sheffield United do sit bottom of the division via goal difference. However, Chris Wilder’s return as manager has lifted spirits and led to a win over Brentford last week.

Paul Merson prediction
Merson has now made his weekly pre-match prediction ahead of the weekend’s Premier League games.
He’s tipping Chelsea to pick up three points with a win on Saturday, but made the pretty firm claim that some players in the Blues squad are “simply not good enough”.
“If Chelsea lose this game, you seriously have to sit there and wonder if they are in a relegation battle. They have a big cup game against Newcastle United coming up, but before that, they have to put this one to bed and secure all three points,” Merson told Sportskeeda.
“Some of the players Chelsea have are simply not good enough. They aren’t going to spearhead them to a title challenge anytime soon and that’s where Chelsea want to be, as they aren’t a club that’s happy with regular top-four finishes. It’s a tricky situation because most of these players have just joined the clubs on eight-year contracts. If they want to progress as a club, they need better players, so it’ll be interesting to see what they do in the January transfer window.
“Something’s got to give to Mauricio Pochettino and his side and they’re playing at home, so I’m backing them to win 2-0.”
Chelsea vs Sheffield United
Chelsea are on a three-game winning streak in fixtures against Sheffield United, beating them 2-0 in the FA Cup back in 2021 during the most recent showdown.
We’d certainly expect Pochettino’s side to go out and secure a comfortable win this weekend, but this team has become very difficult to predict.
The next four league games are against Sheffield United (home), Wolverhampton Wanderers (away), Crystal Palace (home), and Luton Tow (away).
If the Blues return a low points tally in upcoming matches, we’re afraid the fans are stuck with another season of mid-table obscurity.
