Paul Merson has predicted the score ahead of Wolverhampton Wanderers against Chelsea this weekend.

Wolves host Chelsea in the Premier League on Sunday, the first Christmas Eve fixture in this country for 28 years.

The Blues should go into this match buoyed by the last couple of results.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side recorded a win over Sheffield United last weekend to earn three vital league points. Also, they beat Newcastle United this week on penalties to progress to the Carabao Cup semi-finals.

Prediction time

Paul Merson can’t split the team when making his pre-match prediction for Wolves versus Chelsea.

He highlighted that Wolves are coming fresh off their worst performance of the season in a 3-0 defeat to West Ham. But despite the fact that Chelsea are starting to pick up positive results, there’s still no belief that they have any kind of consistency.

“I thought Wolves were poor last weekend against West Ham. That’s the worst they’ve looked all season,” Merson told Sportskeeda.

“You never know what you’re going to get with Chelsea…Despite Chelsea’s morale boosting performance against Newcastle in the Carabao Cup, I am going for a draw in this one as Chelsea are still suspect defensively.

“Prediction: Wolverhampton Wanderers 2-2 Chelsea.”

Elsewhere, speaking via talkSPORT this week, Gabby Agbonlahor predicted a Wolves win over Chelsea.

Wolves vs Chelsea

On paper, this looks like a very tough game to call between two sides that are very up and down with their level.

For Chelsea, it feels so important they pick up a healthy points return from this final set of games in 2023. They face Wolves, Crystal Palace and Luton Town during the remainder of a busy December.

The Blues sit 10th in the league table right now, but they should set a target to reduce the six-point deficit to Manchester United in seventh.
