Paul Merson believes that Chelsea would be willing to sell their star player if they receive a gigantic nine-figure transfer bid for him.

Chelsea were extremely busy over the summer in the transfer window, both in signing and selling players. They also managed to get numerous young players for the future out on loan.

The Blues sold the likes of Conor Gallagher, Ian Maatsen, Romelu Lukaku, Omari Hutchinson and Angelo Gabriel. Incidentally, speaking via The Evening Standard recently, Gallagher suggested he could’ve suited Enzo Maresca’s style.

Paul Merson says Chelsea would sell Cole Palmer

Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson thinks Chelsea’s ownership would have no hesitation about selling Cole Palmer for £100m if he continues with this rapid upwards trajectory.

The 22-year-old attacker emerged as the talisman at Stamford Bridge last year after a stunning debut season for the Blues. In fact, he signed a contract extension last month that keeps him at the club until 2033.

“If [Nicolas] Jackson scores 25 goals next season, they will sell him… If Palmer becomes unbelievable and keeps on doing what he is doing, then he will be a £100m player. They will sell him for £100m. That’s how it works.”

Chelsea must keep him at all costs

If Chelsea were to even contemplate selling Palmer, we’re pretty sure there would be chaos from supporters.

In fairness, the Blues have signalled their intent by awarding the England star with a new deal after only one season at the club. Let’s wait and see what unfolds in the coming years, though.

Speaking on the BBC’s podcast Planet Premier League last month, Cesc Fabregas described Chelsea’s Palmer as “outstanding” for his performances last season. He’s started the 2024/25 campaign in similar form as well, scoring one goal and making four assists from five appearances across all competitions.

We hope that the Chelsea attacker, who’s thriving in the No.10 position, is ready to flex his muscles on Saturday night for his side’s league trip to Bournemouth.
