Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has just shared his one main concern about Enzo Maresca at Chelsea.
Enzo Maresca, who was appointed Chelsea’s head coach this summer, is now hours away from his first competitive match in charge of his new club.
Interestingly, the Blues kick off their Premier League season on Sunday afternoon at home to Manchester City, which is where Maresca previously worked as an assistant coach.
The Daily Mail claims that Maresca’s impressed Chelsea’s players with his knowledge of them, so let’s hope it’s the start of a great relationship. A statement victory over Man City this weekend would be a great way to get everyone pulling in the right direction.

Pep Guardiola comments on Enzo Maresca
Pep Guardiola is confident Maresca will succeed at Chelsea if he’s given time, but his one doubt is whether or not he gets that in West London.
Guardiola said in his Friday press conference, as quoted by journalist Ben Jacobs on X: “My advice is to give him time and it will work. All managers need time. I don’t know if Chelsea is the place to do this, but it will work if they give him time. This is my feeling.”
The benefit of a quick start
There’s no doubt that Maresca will be desperate to start quickly at Chelsea, something he certainly did last year as Leicester City boss. Remarkably, Maresca’s Leicester won 13 of their opening 14 league matches in the Championship last season en route to promotion and the title.
The Blues actually play five matches matches before the first international break of the season in early September.
- Chelsea vs Manchester City (18 August) – Premier League
- Chelsea vs Servette (22 August) – Conference League Play-off
- Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Chelsea (25 August) – Premier League
- Servette vs Chelsea (29 August) – Conference League Play-off
- Chelsea vs Crystal Palace (1 September) – Premier League
It feels so important for Maresca to start well with some points on the board in the league, plus safe progress through to the Conference League group stages.
