‘Perfect for him’: £49m league winner should go and sign for Chelsea this summer, TalkSPORT pundit says

Chelsea have been encouraged to complete a deal for Manchester City’s Raheem Sterling.

Former Blues defender Scott Minto told TalkSPORT that the 27-year-old would be the signing the club need to make if they’re to close the gap to City and Liverpool next season.

The title rivals drew away from Thomas Tuchel’s side at the turn of the year, eventually both finishing at least 18 points ahead.

Sterling has shone for the club since his £49m signing in 2015, helping the Citizens to four Premier League titles.

However, the strength in depth at the club has lead him to less regular game time, with the inclusion of Jack Grealish last summer only adding to that.

This has lead to rumours of the England international looking for a new challenge, with Minto believing he would struggle to find anywhere better than Stamford Bridge for him to go.

He said: “Chelsea would be perfect for him. Chelsea or Spurs I think would be two good moves for him, but Chelsea would be able to bridge that gap more than Spurs could do.”

Sterling may be keen on a move to increase his chances of starting at the Qatar World Cup this winter, with him reportedly seeking assurances of a starting role if he was to complete a move.

A move to Stamford Bridge would be a positive for Sterling, as it offers him an opportunity to break out and be a star as opposed to a cog in a machine.

Chelsea have lacked a maverick style talent since Eden Hazard’s departure in 2019, with a goal threat from out wide also non-existent since the great Belgian.

England’s options for attacking places are not hard to come by, and although Sterling enjoyed a brilliant Euros last year, this set of Nations League fixtures has shown he is not a guarantee in every fixture.
