Peter Crouch has criticised Chelsea for where they sit in the Premier League table with this current crop of players.

In fact, he’s said it’s “absolutely ridiculous” that the Blues are mid table.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side went into this weekend’s round of fixtures 10th in the Premier League standings. Remarkably, they’ve only collected 22 points from 17 games so far.

It’s a big opportunity for Chelsea to try get back on track with their final three games of 2023. They face Wolverhampton Wanderers tomorrow afternoon, followed by Crystal Palace and Luton Town in the next week.

Peter Crouch comments

Peter Crouch has urged everyone not to be overly critical of Chelsea head coach Pochettino during his first season at Stamford Bridge.

However, he’s stunned by how much the Blues are underachieving.

Crouch said on his podcast: “I don’t think it’s entirely his (Pochettino’s) fault, I look at the managers they have had in recent years, even [Graham] Potter, and it feels like a lot of turmoil is going on behind the scenes. I don’t think you can really judge him on what is going on at the minute. In the past he has been a top manager but I think at Chelsea there does seem to be problems and they look like they are comfortably a mid table side at the moment which, when you look at the players, is absolutely ridiculous to say that but that’s where they are.”

Chelsea are underachieving

Yes, Chelsea have been very unfortunate with injuries from day one of the season. You’ll get very little sympathy from rival supporters when you spend so much to assemble the squad, though.

We agree that 10th isn’t good enough right now with this current crop. It may be filled with a lot of young stars for the future, but the performances have been too inconsistent with this level of player.

The club’s run in the Carabao Cup tournament has been a lifeline in the year so far, especially now they face Championship club Middlesbrough in a two-legged semi final.

However, Chelsea need to be miles better in the league and must find a big turnaround for the second half of the season.

Interestingly, Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Gary O’Neil predicted this week that Chelsea will finish much higher than 10th this season (Wolves’ official website).
