There was one notable selection choice made by Enzo Maresca before he took up his seat in the stands to watch Chelsea’s win over Everton.
Romeo Lavia started for the first time in over three months in the heart of midfield alongside Enzo Fernandez, meaning there was a change in role for Moises Caicedo.
The Ecuador international has been up there with the very best in the world in the middle of the park this season. Alexis Mac Allister rated Caicedo above Declan Rice in terms of quality.
However, it was right-back where the Blues man seemed to line up, a position where he has played in the past to accomodate other players into the starting side.

Peter Crouch says Moises Caicedo just invented a new position during Chelsea vs Everton
Something that has been familiar with whoever has started in that position since Maresca came in is the ability to help out in midfield. This is something that Reece James and Malo Gusto have struggled with at times.
Peter Crouch believes Caicedo took this to another level though, and told TNT Sports that he believes he invented a new position known as a ‘false two’.
He said: “I wouldn’t say so. It’s almost like a false two. Not a false nine, it’s a false two. He keeps coming into midfield when Chelsea have the ball, but that’s leaving a big space out there on the left when he does that, and if Everton can move it quickly they can definitely get some joy.”
When asked to clarify what he meant by the position, he said: “It’s a new one.”

Moises Caicedo’s stats vs Everton
Despite not starting in his favoured position, Caicedo put in another dominant display at Stamford Bridge against the Toffees.
| Moises Caicedo vs Everton | Total |
| Minutes | 90 |
| Tackles | 2 |
| Duels won | 5 |
| Dribbled past | 0 |

Caicedo was seen frequently gesturing for more support from the Chelsea fans throughout the game as he recognised how much they needed from those in attendance to get them over the line.
Caicedo has previously praised Chelsea fans for the fact that they can carry their side to wins, and they will certainly be relying on them for four crucial Premier League games before the end of the season.
