Few goalkeepers come close to matching the impact and longevity Petr Cech had during his time as Chelsea’s number one.
The Czech Republic international holds the record for the most clean sheets in Premier League history, and his extraordinary record speaks for itself in all competitions.
| Petr Cech’s Chelsea career | Total |
| Appearances | 494 |
| Goal conceded | 393 |
| Clean sheets | 228 |
Chelsea’s current crop of goalkeepers could certainly learn a thing or two from Cech. Both Robert Sanchez and Filip Jorgensen have come in for heavy criticism as a result of their performances of late.
Enzo Maresca has demanded a new goalkeeper to be added to his ranks, and he can only dream that the player who lines up between the sticks who has abilities similar to their club legend.

Despite all his positive moments, the former Blue has been on the wrong end of some iconic footballing moments. Cech recalled a nightmare against Liverpool in the Champions League, although Chelsea fans remember the game for the iconic 4-4 scoreline.
Cech was also helpless to one of the greatest goals in the competition’s history, when Ronaldinho’s iconic toe punt found the back of the net at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea had flown out of the traps in an attempt to overturn a one-goal first leg deficit against Barcelona, taking a 3-0 lead in the first half.
The legendary Brazilian had dragged his side back into things though, and his ridiculous toe punt silenced the Blues fans, and left Cech stunned.
The former goalkeeper told Amazon Prime that he was caught by surprise by the effort, and before he knew it, the ball was in the net.
He said: “I remember it quite well. I thought he was going to step over and go one way or the other, and then he stopped completely and you think ‘what is he going to do?’ And you see he started dancing around it, and then he used the toe punt. The worst thing is it was so quick and so surprising, the moment I was ready to push, the ball was by my side. It was a good strike, but the surprise!
“You don’t expect that, you always feel like they prepare for the better shot, but the best players always find a solution to get a bit of space and the shot away.”
Chelsea would progress thanks to a late John Terry header, however the game would be remembered for Ronaldinho’s goal.

Petr Cech’s iconic Lionel Messi stat
Cech boasted a relatively successful record against Barcelona during his time at Chelsea. The Blues beat them on the way to winning the Champions League in 2012.
While Ronaldinho was able to get the better of him in goalscoring positions, one player who wasn’t was Lionel Messi.
Extraordinarily, Cech never conceded a goal to the Argentinian legend in the six games he lined up against him as a Chelsea player.
It wasn’t until his move to Arsenal in the twilight of his career that Messi finally found the net against him, and he wouldn’t score against Chelsea until 2018 when Antonio Conte was in charge of the Blues.
