Few midfielders have had a greater impact on the Chelsea side in recent history than N’Golo Kante, but fellow club legend Petr Cech didn’t name him in his all-time Chelsea XI.

Kante was the catalyst for Chelsea’s dramatic return to the top of the Premier League in 2017, winning the title just 12 months after they had finished in the bottom half of the table.

A number of current Chelsea stars idolise the Frenchman. Moises Caicedo has admitted on a number of occasions how much he admires Kante.

Petr Cech picks Claude Makelele ahead of N’Golo Kante in all-time Chelsea XI

The former Leicester City man was the latest in a long line of quality midfielders to feature at Stamford Bridge, which has continued into the current day with Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez.

This makes picking an all-time Chelsea XI very difficult, although Petr Cech has had a go at his in a TikTok with Icons.

When it came to a defensive midfielder, Cech decided to choose Claude Makelele over Kante, playing in a midfield alongside Frank Lampard and Michael Essien.

Makelele would feature for the Blues between 2003 and 2008, winning two Premier League titles and a number of domestic cups.

Kante ready for one last dance at the World Cup

Despite now being 35 years of age, the former Chelsea man has been called up to the France squad for the 2026 World Cup.

The injury woes that ruined his final few years at Stamford Bridge seem to have left him, allowing him to feature at the previous European Championships too.

Kante will be alongside Malo Gusto in the France squad this summer, who has a real chance of becoming their starting right-back for the beginning of the tournament after Jules Kounde’s injury.

France will be taking on Senegal in their first game, meaning they will be up against Chelsea duo Mamadou Sarr and Nicolas Jackson.
