Petr Cech has described Joe Edwards as “Chelsea through and through” after he completed a move away from Stamford Bridge this week.
Edwards, who was a Blues assistant coach this campaign, has joined Premier League rivals Everton mid-season to end a remarkable 27-year association with Chelsea.
He’s worked as a coach in the club’s academy, along with on the senior staff under Thomas Tuchel and Frank Lampard.
Edwards has now reunited with Lampard, who was officially named as the new Everton manager this week.
Ex-Blues manager Lampard is now back in management for the first time in over a year and is calling on some familiar faces to build his staff around him. For example, Ashley Cole is reportedly expected to make the move to Merseyside with Everton.
Chelsea’s technical and performance adviser Cech has paid tribute to Edwards after all his work around Cobham and the Bridge over many years.
“At the start of this week, Joe Edwards took the opportunity to join Everton as Frank Lampard’s assistant manager. Joe has been Chelsea through and through for many years, since his time in the Academy. He had huge success there as a coach before joining the senior team with Frank and becoming part of Thomas Tuchel’s coaching staff, with more huge success,” Cech wrote.
“On behalf of everyone here, I want to say thank you to Joe for all he’s done for Chelsea and I look forward to seeing what the future holds for him. Obviously we will miss Joe, but we wish him all the best in this new chapter of his career and hope it all works out well for him.”

Chelsea fans will keep close eye on Toffees
It’ll be difficult for Blues supporters not to keep glancing over at what Everton are doing this season.
The pair are competing at different ends of the table this season, but the growing Chelsea connection at Goodison Park will spike attention of some fans.
Potentially, Tuchel could look at sending out some of the club’s best young talents to Everton later down the line if they stay in the top division. The Toffees sit precariously just four points above the relegation drop zone, so that’s their immediate focus.
