PGMOL make Michael Salisbury decision after Chelsea vs Fulham VAR controversy

There was plenty of VAR controversy in Chelsea’s 2-0 win against Fulham on Saturday.

Before Chelsea took the lead through Joao Pedro, Josh King had a goal disallowed following a VAR review.

Rodrigo Muniz was adjudged to have fouled Trevoh Chalobah in the build-up to King putting the ball into Robert Sanchez’s net.

After that, Chelsea were also given a penalty despite the ball hitting the arm of Pedro in the lead up to the spot-kick being awarded. After the game, former Premier League referee Mark Clattenburg told The Chelsea Chronicle that the VAR should not have got involved in the Chalobah incident.

Michael Salisbury removed from Liverpool v Arsenal game

Michael Salisbury was the VAR in Saturday’s west London derby and was set for the same role in Liverpool’s game against Arsenal on Sunday afternoon.

However, it has now emerged that he has been taken off VAR duty by PGMOL and replaced by John Brooks.

While Fulham fans will feel that they were hard done by at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea supporters will not care at all.

Enzo Maresca‘s men managed to win the game, which is the most important thing to them, while they have their own problems to worry about.

Liam Delap faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines after sustaining a hamstring injury during his side’s latest win.

Chelsea are now looking for a replacement for the 22-year-old. Marc Guiu being recalled has not been ruled out.

What Enzo Maresca said about the officiating during Chelsea’s win against Fulham

Maresca does not believe Fulham actually have too much to complain about. For the Chelsea manager, Muniz’s foul was a foul and the Blues deserved their penalty.

When asked by TNT Sports after the game if his side were fortunate, he said: “I don’t think so to be honest, because the foul is a foul, and the penalty is a penalty.”

Of course, many will disagree with the Italian. But again, Chelsea will not care. They have picked up another three points to make it a strong start to the new Premier League season.

Things will get even better if they can win their next west London derby, which is against Brentford straight after the international break.
