Chelsea may be starting to regret loaning Marc Guiu to newly-promoted Sunderland.
Liam Delap picked up a hamstring injury in the Blues’ 2-0 win against Fulham on Saturday, while Guiu has not started in any of Sunderland’s first three Premier League games this season.
However, the young striker was named in Regis Le Bris’ first XI for a Carabao Cup tie versus Huddersfield Town and managed to score in it.
Guiu did not take a spot-kick in Sunderland’s penalty shoot-out against Huddersfield, which ended in defeat, and that frustrated supporters. The next time the 19-year-old kicks a ball, he could be back in blue.

Chelsea need Sunderland and Marc Guiu to agree to recall
There is a possibility that Chelsea recall Guiu following Delap’s injury, but a lot of things need to fall into place before that happens.
According to journalist Ben Jacobs, while Guiu returning to Stamford Bridge has not been ruled out, the player, Chelsea and Sunderland all need to agree to it.
As per The Telegraph, there is no break clause in Guiu’s loan deal, hence why Chelsea need Sunderland to agree to a return.
In an ideal world, the Blues would just reintegrate Nicolas Jackson into their squad, which they could still end up doing.
However, The Chelsea Chronicle understands that Jackson will still be allowed to leave if the club can find a replacement for Delap.

Chelsea fans have their say on Marc Guiu return
Before it was even reported that Chelsea were weighing up recalling Guiu, supporters discussed the idea on social media.
After the win versus Fulham, several Chelsea fans expressed their desire for Guiu to return, and they may very well get their wish if the Club World Cup winners can get Sunderland to agree to cut short his loan.
Another option for Chelsea is signing a new centre-forward, with the club currently being linked with Sporting Lisbon’s Conrad Harder ahead of Monday’s transfer deadline.
