Chelsea seem to have stumbled upon one of the best footballers in the world right now in the last 12 months or so.

Cole Palmer has established himself as one of the first names on the teamsheet at Stamford Bridge, and this has never been backed up more than with his performance at the weekend against Brighton.

The England international has left many pundits wowed with his display. Jamie Carragher has stated he thinks he is currently better than Phil Foden.

Sitting on six goals and four assists in the first six games of the season, there is obvious comparisons to another Premier League player who has a combined 10 contributions.

Erling Haaland is scoring goals like no one in the top flight ever has, however Chris Sutton has now stated that he actually prefers Palmer to him due to his all-round game.

Sutton prefers Cole Palmer to Erling Haaland

He said to The Monday Night Club: “He is a phenomenal goalscorer, but what I really like about him more than any other player, and I will include Haaland in this, he is a totally different player to Haaland, the whole debate would you take Haaland for your goalscoring alone, but Palmer has so much more to his game.

“I have rarely seen him waste a pass. He knows exactly when to pass. He is one of those players he doesn’t give you the ball when he is finished with it. He has wonderful awareness.”

Palmer’ brilliance has seen him start every league game so far this season, despite the quality in depth they have in those positions.

Joao Felix waiting patiently

Joao Felix has therefore been left to wait patiently for a proper opportunity to impress after returning to the club, although he is one of those who is likely to start on Thursday in their first Conference League group stage game.

Palmer has not been included in that squad, with him being handed a well-deserved break before the Blues return to Premier League action against Nottingham Forest on Sunday.
