Cole Palmer isn’t even at the World Cup, yet he’s still a big talking point amongst England supporters and pundits.
Thomas Tuchel’s decision to drop Cole Palmer from England’s World Cup squad sparked widespread uproar. And it hasn’t stopped there, as the shock omission has loomed large over the tournament as a rigid, uninspired Three Lions side have noticeably lacked a creative difference-maker.
Addressing his exclusion, a disappointed Palmer admitted it was a hard decision to accept, noting that he could have offered the manager a unique profile on the pitch.
And while he insists he is not crying over something he cannot change, the snub has undoubtedly fueled his fire to prove critics wrong.
Is John Terry right? Would Emma Hayes have done a better job with Chelsea than Liam Rosenior?🤔
Piers Morgan justifies Cole Palmer being dropped from the England squad
Journalist Jonathan Norcroft kicked things off with his article on Cole Palmer, where he shared comments from the Chelsea man.
‘England have overheated trying to break down stubborn opponents at the World Cup. I think they could have done with a certain cold operator. So does he. Interview with Cole Palmer, who thinks and plays differently. “Football has become robotic”, he says.
Piers Morgan quoted his post and it wasn’t a particularly nice one on his X account.
‘Reminder: Palmer was c*** all season and Chelsea came 10th.’
It seems as if Piers is just about the only person who has this opinion.
The frustration among England fans has intensified as Thomas Tuchel’s alternative squad selections fail to deliver at the World Cup.
Eberechi Eze was picked ahead of Cole Palmer, yet the midfielder has offered virtually nothing in North America, making standard lateral passes rather than providing any attacking spark. And given that Eze and Palmer’s domestic statistics during the season were remarkably similar, it’s hard to argue his pick.

The irritation does not stop there, as players like Djed Spence have also completely justified the pre-tournament skepticism. Spence showed very little for a struggling Tottenham side all year, yet somehow secured a spot on the plane.
Thrust into things after an injury to Reece James, he has looked completely out of his depth, turning in disappointing performances that leave fans questioning Thomas Tuchel altogether.
