Chelsea loanee Romelu Lukaku continued his love affair last night with the Europa League.

Romelu Lukaku scored the opening goal in Roma’s 4-0 home win against Servette in the Europa League group stages on Thursday night.

Remarkably, this now means the Belgian striker has scored in 13 consecutive appearances in the Europa League.

Some may doubt him when it comes to scoring goals on the biggest stages, but his record in Europe’s secondary cup competition speaks for itself.

Lukaku, who’s now 30, is still a Chelsea-owned player on the club’s books until the summer of 2026.

The centre-forward returned to Italy this year for yet another season-long loan, this time with Jose Mourinho’s Roma.

He’s quickly making his mark in Rome with five goals in seven games across all competitions so far this seasson.

If the Italian giants have eyes on winning a European prize this season, they’ve got the perfect weapon at their disposal with the Europa League specialist.

Lukaku’s outrageous streak in the competition started with Everton back in the 2014/15 campaign. His next taste of the Europa League was with Inter Milan in the 2019/20 season. He’s now two for two this year with Roma as this run stretches even further.

We’re only full of admiration for Lukaku as a goalscorer, but we still don’t imagine any world in which he returns to play for Chelsea again.

The Daily Mirror recently claimed that Chelsea are optimistic that they’ll finally be able to sell Lukaku next summer and offload him on a permanent basis.
