Plymouth Argyle manager Steven Schumacher has shared the conversation he had with Chelsea star Mason Mount after the 2-1 FA Cup fourth-round defeat at Stamford Bridge.
The visitors certainly deserve a lot of credit after forcing a strong Chelsea side into extra time. They were even very close to a late equaliser if it was not for Kepa Arrizabalga’s heroic penalty save.
The Blues were still dominant, as expected, but Schumacher’s men managed to limit the hosts to just 11 shots on target from 41 shot attempts.
Mount, who had a strong performance in his natural position in midfield, was impressed by Argyle’s defence, according to the manager.

“I spoke to Mason Mount and a couple of their players who were top class, to be fair, with all of our players,” Schumacher said in his post-match press conference (via CareFree Chelsea’s YouTube channel).
“I had a little chat with Mount and [he was] very complimentary to how well-organised we were and how we didn’t make an easy afternoon for Chelsea.
“So, yeah, [I’m] pleased about that.”

The game highlights both Argyle’s outstanding effort as well as Chelsea’s poor finishing.
The fact that the Blues had to rely on two defenders to score is a big concern for Thomas Tuchel, who was absent today after testing positive for Covid-19, and his coaching team.
Tuchel’s assistant Arno Michels insisted that Romelu Lukaku was “unlucky”, but the striker only managed one shot on target throughout the game.
