Mauricio Pochettino has now overseen something that no other Chelsea side have ever done in Premier League history.

The remarkable statistic was made apparent by Squawka.

So, what have Chelsea done now? Let’s take a look…

What’s the story?

Well, the 2022/23 Premier League campaign saw Chelsea set new club records for poor performance, and the 2023/24 season has began with another alarming statistic.

After today’s 3-1 defeat to West Ham, the Blues have now lost four consecutive London derbies for the first time in Premier League history.

Chelsea’s last four derbies in the capital have come against Tottenham, Brentford, Arsenal and West Ham.

Chelsea suffered a 2-0 defeat against Tottenham in north London to kickstart this dreadful run, before losing 2-0 to Brentford at Stamford Bridge and 3-1 to Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.

Now – after today’s horror show in east London – Chelsea have set themselves a new Premier League record, although it is one that nobody at Stamford Bridge will be shouting from the rooftops about.

Wake up call for Chelsea

Many Chelsea fans were overjoyed after last week’s 1-1 draw against Liverpool, and rightly so.

The Blues looked bright in possession, sharp going forward and composed defensively after a shaky start against the Reds.

Now – however – today’s loss to West Ham must act as a wake up call for Chelsea, as there is still a lot for Pochettino to sort out, specifically in terms of the balance of his starting XI.

Nicolas Jackson could do with some competition, Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia must be brought up to speed quickly in regards to match fitness, and a new backup goalkeeper must be found as well.

With just under two weeks remaining in the transfer window, Chelsea’s squad still needs a bit of surgery if the Blues are to have a successful 2023/24 campaign.
