Chelsea fans think Genesis Antwi could be their next superstar

During Chelsea’s win over Villa at the U21s level, Genesis Antwi was excellent with an energetic performance at right-back.

The 17-year-old defender received rave reviews from Blues fans on X after his individual display, which included a great assist for the opening goal after sprinting forward.

One fan wrote: “Genesis Antwi and Ishe Samuels-Smith are class.”

“All I’m going to say is keep Genesis Antwi in this club at all cost,” another posted.

One supporter claimed: “What a player! First time watching him and I’m moved.”

“Dare to say it but we’ve somehow managed to do it again at right-back. Proper Tino [Livramento] vibes to him at the very early stages with a mix of [Tariq] Lamptey and others,” another said.

Like mentioned above, the Chelsea academy has been renowned for producing quality right-backs over the years. Therefore, we’re excited to see if Antwi can follow in the footsteps of full-backs such as Reece James, Tino Livramento, Tariq Lamptey and Ola Aina.

Speaking earlier this season, Newcastle United and England right-back Livramento praised Chelsea’s academy for the great work it does. Unfortunately, the 22-year-old star is one of several Cobham products enjoying success elsewhere.

Who is Genesis Antwi?

Antwi, who turns 18 in May, has been on Chelsea’s books since joining the academy as an U12.

The versatile wide man, who usually plays at right-back, has taken giant strides forward this campaign as a key player in the U21s side. Also, the Swedish youngster has had a taste of first-team football.

Antwi made his senior debut in Chelsea colours in March with a late cameo appearance off the bench in the Conference League victory over Copenhagen. In addition, he was an unused substitute against Leicester City in the Premier League fixture last month.

It was only last September that Antwi signed his first professional deal with the Blues, so he’s definitely beginning to make a lot of noise with his performances.
