Pundit is having serious doubts about one of Chelsea’s summer signings already

Chelsea made it three Premier League wins in a row after their victory against Fulham on Saturday.

Mauricio Pochettino‘s side managed to beat their west London rivals 1-0 and have now moved up to ninth in the table.

However, Robbie Earle still has concerns about one of Chelsea‘s summer signings Moises Caicedo, criticising both the Ecuadorian and Enzo Fernandez on The 2 Robbies Podcast.

Liverpool legend Steve Nicol has also been critical of the South American duo following the Blues’ win against Fulham, claiming that neither will score a goal for the team any time soon.

Chelsea paid a record £115m (Sky Sports) to sign Caicedo from Brighton & Hove Albion last summer.

Moises Caicedo has not convinced Robbie Earle

Earle has not been too impressed with Caicedo and Fernandez this season.

Speaking about the pair after the Fulham game, the former midfielder said: “If I was the opposition, it doesn’t really worry me. There was a time in the game when Fulham started to put some passes together, certainly down the left-hand side Willian and Antonee Robinson, they were starting to look dangerous.

“The midfield of Chelsea couldn’t control the match, couldn’t put a dampener on Fulham to control and to cure. They ended up winning 1-0 and a few scrambles and things, couple of good blocks and a few chances missed for Fulham.

“But, I’m still looking at this midfield to show me, now again I looked at their ages. Enzo’s 22, Caicedo’s 22, so they’re very young and I’m not saying that they need time and they’re inexperienced, but there’s just under 100 Premier League games in between them. I’m not seeing enough at the moment, I saw some people saying Caicedo showed how good a player he’s going to be, he still hasn’t convinced me.”

Moises Caicedo struggling to justify £115m fee

Caicedo is not necessarily having a bad season. When you watch Chelsea play, you would not say that he is someone costing the team games.

However, the Ecuador international is failing to live up to his price tag, though that seemed like an inevitability from the moment he signed for Chelsea.

Caicedo is a midfielder and midfielders are rarely prolific goalscorers who win you games. Considering that, the former Brighton man was never going to make the impact of a £115m player; it is just not in his nature. Really, it is the kind of money a club should only be spending on a forward, but here we are.
