‘Question marks’: TalkSPORT pundit thinks Chelsea man’s future is not secure, despite having five-year contract

Darren Bent believes Graham Potter’s job as Chelsea manager is still not safe even though he is only 11 games into his reign.

Speaking on talkSPORT, Bent suggested the new Blues boss remains under fire, regardless of his minimal tenure at Stamford Bridge.

Potter will have been well aware of the pitfalls that await any coach that takes the hot seat at Cobham, mainly the relatively short shelf life of those who take the plunge.

Thomas Tuchel was the latest victim of the owner’s trigger finger, having been fired by Todd Boehly just seven games into the season.

Before Boehly’s ruling, Roman Abramovich relentlessly recycled managers, yet still maintained a successfully formula in terms of winning titles.

His predecessor will hope Potter can provide more silverware in the coming months.

However, Chelsea are still some way off lifting a trophy at the moment.

Potter is trying to find the winning formula

The Blues are currently ten points behind first placed Arsenal, who they face tomorrow, having dropped off the pace due to being defeated by Brighton & Hove Albion last weekend.

Many questions were directed towards Potter after his unhappy return to the Amex Stadium, queries that will continue until his very last day as the Blues boss.

“If Chelsea lose this and they start slipping (and) get to February and Chelsea are 8^th and they are out of the Champions League, will he last the season 100%?” asked Andy Goldstein about the Chelsea manager’s survival rates.

“There will always be question marks about him until he gets them back to where they should be, competing for the title and the Champions League,” responded Bent.

“I don’t think they’ll get rid of them, but he has to start turning it around.”

The phrase ‘turning it around’ is quite a harsh one considering Chelsea have only lost once in 11 fixtures since Potter replaced Tuchel on a five-year deal in September.

Yet, defeat on Sunday against Arsenal will pile pressure on the man in the home dugout, a clash he really cannot afford to lose.
