Real Madrid star Luka Modric has praised Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount ahead of their likely encounter in the Euro 2020 group match between England and Croatia on Sunday.
A couple of days ago, Mount reiterated that he has been a long admirer of the former Tottenham Hotspur star.
“He [Modric] has always been a player that I have looked up to,” Mount said in his press conference on Friday (via Goal).
The 22-year-old has had the opportunity to face Modric in the Champions League semi-finals.
Modric has now had his say about Mount — and his comment suggests that he might have kept an eye on the young midfielder for quite some time.
“I think that Mason has shown during the season that he is a very talented player with lots of potentials and that there’s a great future ahead of him,” the Real Madrid star said during his Croatia press conference on Saturday.
“If he keeps working and investing himself in the way he is doing, he is going to be a great player in the future.
“He will be a very important part of the English national team.”
Modric also spoke about the small chat he had with Mount after the full-time whistle at Stamford Bridge.
“It was a usual conversation after matches where you wish good luck to someone,” he explained.
“I wished them all the best in the final, that was it.”
