Chelsea fans are celebrating the news today that youngster Josh Acheampong has signed a contract extension with the club.
Chelsea confirmed on Wednesday that Josh Acheampong, 18, has penned a new deal at Stamford Bridge.
The teenage defender has agreed to a new deal with the Blues that runs until 2029, which puts to an end the contract saga that’s been ongoing in recent months.
Acheampong has already played three first-team games for the Blues, including a couple of appearances this season under Enzo Maresca.
Interestingly, Maresca claims he doesn’t want Acheampong to leave Chelsea on loan because it’s better for his development if he’s around the first-team group.

Josh Acheampong reacts to new Chelsea deal
Acheampong has uploaded a post on Instagram celebrating his contract extension with boyhood club Chelsea.
Interestingly, he’s received responses in the comment section from some big individuals. Blues captain Reece James has celebrated the news with a reply, plus club legend John Terry has also added his congratulations.

Chelsea boss Maresca has convinced Acheampong he suits his system, so it’s going to be exciting to watch his development in the second half of the season.
The 18-year-old defender, who can play as a right-back or centre-half, is a useful addition to the group.
Acheampong is already training with Chelsea’s first team every day. Now that he’s tied down to a long-term deal, he can focus on his development and carving out a long senior career with the Blues.
Youngsters still coming through at Chelsea
It’s been a shame to see the likes of Conor Gallagher, Lewis Hall, Mason Mount and Callum Hudson-Odoi move on from Chelsea in recent years. There’s plenty more academy graduates from Cobham to find success elsewhere, too.
However, the Blues continue to keep producing special young talents year on year.
The likes of James and Levi Colwill in the current first-team squad are homegrown talents, so let’s hope Acheampong is ready to follow in their footsteps.
