Chelsea captain Reece James has now sent a message to Christopher Nkunku after he made his debut for the club in last night’s big cup win.

He took to Instagram to share just how happy he was that the £52m summer signing had finally made his first competitive outing for his new side, with his impact being seen instantly.

Chelsea booked their place in the last four of the EFL Cup last night with a dramatic victory over Newcastle United.

It looked as if they were heading out of the competition late on, and this saw Mauricio Pochettino turn to the ace up his sleeve that was on the bench.

Nkunku was brought on with just over 20 minutes to play, and his introduction saw Stamford Bridge raise its noise by a few decibels.

Mykhailo Mudryk pounced on an error late on to level a game and send the home fans crazy, as the game went to penalties.

Here, the Blues were perfect from the spot, allowing Djordje Petrovic to make himself the hero on just his second start for the club.

The sight of Nkunku hitting the net from the spot is one they can surely get used to, and one that clearly pleased James who was watching from the stands.

He then took to social media to praise the Frenchman and share how excited he was at his return.

He said: “Big win! So happy to see you back big bro.”

Pochettino will now surely be considering starting the 26-year-old for the first time when the Blues are back in action on Christmas Eve in the Premier League.

As they go into that game looking to make it three wins on the spin, his impact could be huge on linking things up for their mostly disjointed attack.
