Reports suggest that Graham Potter is the early favourite to become the next Chelsea manager after Thomas Tuchel’s sacking.
According to The Telegraph, the Brighton manager is the current frontrunner to take over after Tuchel’s 100th game in charge ended up being his last.
The Seagulls boss has drawn praise from all corners of the sport during his time at the club, with even the German describing him as ‘great’ when the sides met last season.
This season, things have been no different, with Brighton’s campaign beginning with a comfortable victory at Old Trafford.
They currently sit fourth in the Premier League, with four wins and a draw from their opening six games.
They also have the joint best defensive record in the league, something that will appeal to Chelsea fans who had gotten used to seeing a compact defence in the early stages of Thomas Tuchel’s time at Chelsea.
Potter favourite for Chelsea job
Solid foundations were what helped the Blues achieve Champions League glory just over a year ago, however things took a drastic turn in the second half of Tuchel’s reign.
The Blues ended up conceding at an average of more than a goal a game, which is pretty unacceptable for a club who have ambitions as high as Chelsea’s.
Potter would be a sensational coup for the Blues, with the 47-year-old surely destined for a job at one of the traditional ‘big six’ clubs seemingly whenever he fancies.
The end of Tuchel’s reign will no doubt anger some fans, who will have the belief that anyone would need time to find the correct system to bed new players in, with there being as many as four or five new signings the club are looking to get into the first team.
Either way, the timing seems peculiar from the new owners, having just giving the German a world record amount to spend in the summer.
