Another twist has been added to the tale of Roman Abramovich’s attempts to sell Chelsea.
According to the Telegraph, the idea of handing over the control of the club to the board of trustees has been completely replaced by the search for a permanent buyer.
Whilst numerous names have been flung about in the past few days, two stand out more than most.
Are these the right men for the job?
Todd Boehly and Hansjorg Wyss are said to be combining their billionaire status to secure Stamford Bridge and everything it represents.
The Telegraph claim the pair will aim to make a significant bid by the end of the week, with the appropriate finances already secured.
However, Boehly and Wyss apparently have a helping hand in this transaction.
Another businessman, whose identity remains a secret, is also said to be involved in the takeover plan.
Wyss took a plane (probably private) yesterday from New York to California to meet with Boehly to finalise paperwork and the finer details of the strategy.
They, and their mystery third party, must pass the Premier League fit and proper persons test before officially claiming the keys to Chelsea’s empire, which could be signed off within 10 days.
Chelsea still clouded by uncertainity
Although this feels like a scene from a comic book where three evil villains plot world destruction, the reality is a lot less jovial.
For Abramovich, ensuring Chelsea changes hands before he is possibly hit by sanctions from the government remains paramount.
Failure to make a swift deal and his largest English asset could be frozen, meaning no new ownership and no injection of cash.
Meanwhile, for those paid to perform on behalf of the organisation, matters upstairs could affect them on the pitch.
The likes of Antonio Rudiger, Andreas Christensen and Cesar Azpilicueta reportedly fear their contract situations may return to square one once the next chain of command is installed.
Fans as well are no clearer about what their team will look like in a few months, let alone next season.
