Chelsea could reportedly end up with a new owner in place this month.

According to The Independent, current Blues owner Roman Abramovich has now set a deadline for interested buyers to make offers for Chelsea. Afterwards, there will be final negotiations with suitors about their respective bids.

The report states it’s “far from inconceivable” that the club may have a new owner by the time Thomas Tuchel’s side next play a home match at Stamford Bridge, which is within the next two weeks.

Chelsea travel to Luton Town in the FA Cup tonight before a trip to Burnley on the weekend, but any new buyer may be in place by the 13 March when they host Newcastle United in the Premier League. Incidentally, league rivals Newcastle are a club with new owners in place that are very ambitious.

The blueprint put down by Abramovich when he first took charge was to a large extent emulated by Manchester City, now perhaps Newcastle.

Chelsea fans might not be waiting long

All the uncertainty around Chelsea’s ownership isn’t doing much to relax the club’s supporters.

This latest report from The Independent suggests things may start move quickly, and there are already numerous links involving new owners taking charge at the Bridge.

It’s been suggested an American buyer is the most likely solution for Chelsea, as Abramovich looks to sell Chelsea after a fantastic 19-year association.

The 55-year-old Blues owner is at the centre of speculation suggesting he could be sanctioned due to association with with Russian president Vladimir Putin.

Chelsea’s charitable foundation has been handed the reigns of the day-to-day running of the club while Abramovich takes a back step, with deals seemingly going on behind the scenes to sell the club. However, at least two of the six foundation trustees have reportedly raised concerns about their position.

Blues fans can only hope this isn’t a dark cloud that looms over the club for an extended period, so hopefully the right solution can be found quickly.
