Report: Chelsea takeover could now go down to last minute, as multiple bids made

The sale of Chelsea might not be confirmed until the final hour as Roman Abramovich is yet to receive a satisfactory bid.

This is according to ESPN, who claim Abramovich has been presented with several offers, but none that met his valuation of the club.

Roman isn’t budging on the price

The Russian tycoon wants £3b (ESPN) to hand over the rights of Stamford Bridge that he presented to the market last Wednesday.

However, few of the interested suitors view Chelsea in quite a high regard – in a financial sense – as their departing owner.

A consortium of American sports owner Todd Boehly and Swiss businessman Hansjorg Wyss have reportedly already submitted a bid.

Boehly and Wyss’ proposal hasn’t yet reached the public eye, however ESPN state the figure is still some way off Abramovich’s demands.

Turkish billionaire Muhsin Bayrak declared he had offered the Russian less than £2.5b for his Premier League possession.

“We have reached a certain stage. Our law and finance department will start talks with theirs in London on Thursday,” revealed Bayrak.

“We didn’t give that price (£2.5bn) to the British press. Our offer is under that, I’ll at least say that.”

Stand in line for Stamford Bridge

There are numerous other candidates who are apparently gathering together their wealth, mainly hailing from or working within America.

ESPN name the Philadelphia co-owner Josh Harris and the New York Jets chief Woody Johnson as potential investors.

They include the Ricketts family, proprietors of the Chicago Cubs and London property developer Nick Candy on the list of possible suspects as well.

Those readying an approach for Abramovic’s kingdom only have until the 15th of March to make their pitches.

Next Tuesday is also significant because it is the date the UK government will be able to implement stricter sanctions on high-profile figures with links to Russia or Vladimir Putin.

It’s like deadline day but with whole football organisations!
