Reports have claimed that the Chelsea board are placing an emphasis on Thursday’s London derby against Fulham as an occasion to see signs of improvement from Graham Potter.

According to the Daily Mail, a defeat would still certainly not mean the end of the Englishman at the helm at Stamford Bridge.

It has certainly been a mixed bag of form for the club since the former Brighton manager made the switch to West London to replace Champions League winning coach Thomas Tuchel.

A nine-game unbeaten run to start his tenure is quickly forgotten in the current state the Blues are at. They have won just one out of four games since the domestic season returned after the World Cup.

However, the hand dealt to Potter has certainly not done him a favour.

Injuries have been almost unbelievable at Stamford Bridge this season, with it beginning to worry members of the first team.

The likes of Reece James, Wesley Fofana and Ben Chilwell have missed plenty of games this season, while Raheem Sterling and Christian Pulisic have recently joined them on the treatment table.

These absentees have certainly contributed to the downturn in form, with the Daily Mail claiming that Todd Boehly has regularly informed the Chelsea manager that he has the long-term backing of the owner.

With Chelsea out of both domestic cup competitions at the hands of Manchester City, the importance now for the Blues will be rescuing a more respectable Premier League finish, whilst also doing as much as they can in the Champions League.

Whilst Potter has impressed in Europe so far, he faces the tough challenge of facing transfer target Jude Bellingham and Borussia Dortmund in the Round of 16.

However, all focus right now will be on Thursday’s West London derby, with the chance to go above both of their geographically closest rivals in the table.
