Reports have claimed that Chelsea midfielder N’golo Kante is now expected to sign a new contract with the club.

According to Foot Mercato, the Blues man is likely to extend his time at Stamford Bridge after he has been offered a new deal by Todd Boehly and the Chelsea board.

There had been a real fear that the France international was likely to leave the club at the end of the current season when his contract ran out.

The situation was mirrored by midfield partner Jorginho, leaving the potential for a huge midfield exodus at the club when the season comes to an end.

Blues fans will know all to well about that scenario. They lost both Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen for free before the current campaign began.

However, Foot Mercato are now claiming that Chelsea’s latest offer to Kante is one that interests the player, and he should respond in the next few days.

Kante expected to sign new contract

There is still reportedly not much confidence that Jorginho will follow suit at the moment.

Described by pundit Ally McCoist as ‘magic’ in the past, the importance the 31-year-old has to Chelsea has been clear to see in his absence this season.

Kante hasn’t been seen since August, where he went off injured against Tottenham.

The midfield position is still one the club are rumoured to be wanting to strengthen, potentially even as early as this month.

There were reports claiming that the Blues were close to securing a deal to sign Enzo Fernandez from Benfica. However, it has since been reported that their actual bid for his services fell well short of what the Portuguese club were hoping for.

They still may also complete the signing of Denis Zakaria permanently. The Switzerland international is currently on loan, although has been impressing greatly since being given an opportunity to start consecutive games since the World Cup break.
