Report: Manager informs Chelsea of few players he would like to keep this summer if he gets the job

Mauricio Pochettino has reportedly already told Chelsea about the players from their current squad whom he would like to be part of his plans if he gets the job.

According to The Athletic, Pochettino is now among the top candidates to become Chelsea’s next manager following Julian Nagelsmann’s dropping out of the race.

The Argentinean’s Premier League experience reportedly puts him in a favourable position, although some might argue that its being at Chelsea’s London rivals, Tottenham Hotspur, should have worked against him, instead.

Still, Nagelsmann only had experience in Bundesliga, while Luis Enrique, who had been a contender before reportedly becoming an unlikely option, too, has not managed at the club level for several years.

Chelsea also hold a long-term interest in Pochettino, whom co-owners Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali had considered as an option to replace Thomas Tuchel last September before they eventually opted for Graham Potter.

The Athletics claims that there have been new talks with Pochettino recently and the former Paris Saint-Germain boss impressed the Chelsea hierarchy.

The report adds that during these talks, Pochettino already mentioned a few players from the current Chelsea squad whom he would like to be part of his team if he were to take over at Stamford Bridge.

This may prove important since Chelsea are expected to try to trim their squad this summer, which would also help them raise funds amid their recent financial losses.

However, Chelsea have reportedly made it clear that they have yet to make any decision.

Burnley’s Vincent Kompany and an unnamed candidate are said to be still in the race for the Chelsea managerial spot.

In addition to that, Chelsea may also face competition for Real Madrid for Pochettino’s signature amid the uncertainty over Carlo Ancelotti’s future at Santiago Bernabeu.
