Report: Mauricio Pochettino not keen on £40m player who Chelsea had been working on signing

Reports have claimed that Mauricio Pochettino is not keen on signing Andre Onana as the club’s new first choice goalkeeper.

According to the Mail Online, the Inter Milan man is not the Argentine’s number one choice for the role despite the Blues entering discussions this week regarding a potential deal.

A goalkeeper is for sure going to be on the radar for the club this summer after many have not been convinced by the prospects of Kepa Arrizabalaga and Edouard Mendy.

Despite being named the best in the world in 2021, the Senegal international has hardly been seen this year, predominantly under Graham Potter’s reign.

Pochettino does not want Onana

Kepa came back into the side and made a string of sensational saves, however his time in the starting 11 has not been short of criticism either.

With the contract situation of both players reportedly not looking bright for the future, it is widely expected that the Blues invest there this summer.

Onana has been strongly linked with the move to Stamford Bridge, as reports have said the club are looking to put themselves in pole position for a deal that could be worth approximately £40m.

However, it has been claimed that Pochettino has hesitations over the Cameroonian, and may look elsewhere if he has his way over who comes in between the sticks.

It would be advised to the club to not make any signings that don’t have the approval of whoever the next manager is set to be, with questions being asked over the last couple of windows and if the plethora of signings were all made for the man in charge.
