The True Blues Consortium have reportedly given their backing to Stephen Pagliuca as he attempts to become the new Chelsea owner.

According to Sky News, the bidding party led by Pagliuca now has the support of the Chelsea fan group, with John Terry one of the founding members.

Stephen Pagliuca is making strides

The Boston Celtics’ co-owner joined the race to buy Roman Abramovich’s kingdom relatively late, but is very much in the race to securing the top spot at Stamford Bridge.

Since making the shortlist of four candidates compiled by the Raine Group, Pagliuca has added former Walt Disney chief Bog Iger and one of Facebook’s founders Eduardo Saverin to his team.

Adding the True Blues Consortium to the mix would be a big tick on the checklist toward taking over Chelsea.

Sky News state that TBC have spoken with each of the applicants and are willing to work with the winning party.

However, they have decided to publicly promote Pagliuca and Larry Tanenbaum, the Canadian chairman of the National Basketball Association, another new member of the consortium.

“Having engaged and being well received by all the bidders we were recently able to spend some time with Steve and Larry and getting to know their bid we’re again confident that they are aligned with Chelsea fans, and of course have experience in this area of owning sports teams,” said the True Blues Consortium in a recent statement.

“We feel the club are in a fortunate position with the final bidders and look forward to continuing dialogue with them.”

Pagliuca is not alone

The True Blues Consortium are apparently after a 10% stake in Chelsea from whoever replaces Abramovich.

One government source suggested that they would not be shocked if the fan-run group finished as ‘part of the pack’ once the new owners were announced.

Whilst Terry’s army is likely to be on board, the identity of the people they will be working with is still undecided.

Pagliuca is jostling with bids fronted by Todd Boehly, Sir Martin Broughton and the Ricketts family.
