Report: Tuchel was furious with three Chelsea players last night, seen shouting at them from the sidelines

Thomas Tuchel’s frustration at failing to overcome Brighton & Hove Albion last night boiled over onto a trio of his Chelsea players.

Football.london documented the three victims of the manager’s rage, all receiving an earful during the 1-1 draw at the AMEX Stadium last night.

Who had Tuchel irate

Cesar Azpilicueta apparently felt Tuchel’s wrath throughout the first half, despite being on the opposite side to the coach.

The captain was poor in possession and rarely troubled Brighton’s sturdy left-back Marc Cucurella.

Fellow Spaniard Marcos Alonso also got his customary telling off by the German boss, whilst a misdirected Jorginho pass forced him to look the other way in total repulsion.

All of the senior players struggled to set a good example, something that could be said for the majority of the Chelsea team yesterday.

Curious case of the Blues

From front to back, with the exception of possibly Kepa Arrizabalaga and Thiago Silva, the Blues looked off the pace.

Tuchel put this down to tiredness in his post-match press conference, but there feels like a deeper problem rooted in the squad at the moment.

Romelu Lukaku hardly had a sniff all, due to a combination of receiving little to no service and being marshalled by Brighton’s goal scorer Adam Webster and Dan Burn.

Lukaku’s strike partner, Callum Hudson-Odoi, looked like he’d never played alongside the Belgian international before.

Apart from scoring, Hakim Ziyech did little to contribute on the day.

Mason Mount unsuccessfully defended his case for being dropped at Manchester City last weekend.

Brighton so much better

As mentioned, only Silva, Kepa and probably Antonio Rudiger travelled back to Stamford Bridge with any sense of pride still intact.

Whereas pretty much every member of Graham Potter’s group should be filled with pleasure.

The fact the Seagulls might be disappointed at only taking a point off the European Champions says a lot about their quality on the day.

Whilst one team looked like they were challenging for a Champions League spot, the other had mid-table written all over them.

Unfortunately, Chelsea were very much the latter.
